National Chook Health DayTM (NCHD), which commenced in 2015, is the brain child of Barastoc and was developed to raise awareness of the bene ts of having backyard chickens. We started NCHD to celebrate the amazing job that our feathered friends do laying eggs, keeping our gardens free of pests, and providing companionship, day in and day out.
Chickens give back what you put in, so a key focus of NCHD day is to educate backyarders on poultry nutrition and its role in keeping flocks health, happy and productive.
It was decided to have NCHD during Spring Flush when chickens start to gear up after for another season of egg laying.
This year, NCHD was held on Thursday, 24 August with a theme of “bringing out the natural beauty in your hens”, and was tied in with the launch of Barastoc’s new Naturals Range of Poultry Feeds.
A media and in uencer event was held at Apples in Jam in Melbourne, where we were joined by the 2017 NCHD Ambassador Josh Murray from Josh’s Rainbow Eggs and Barastoc’s Animal Nutritionist Briannon Avery. Both discussed their passion for chickens and the importance of maintaining chook health for the most nutritious and wholesome eggs. High profile social media influencers were chosen to nominate their favourite chook for the ‘Natural Beauty Chook of the Year’ pageant, and as you can see from the images, we have some wonderfully elegant chooks across the country!
Briannon Avery and Josh Murray were interviewed by a number of national radio stations to help promote National Chook Health Day, and make sure chook owners across the country have the healthiest and happiest chickens possible.
