Nathan’s 2019 Show Season
As I come to the end of my breeding season I realised that I haven’t actually written about my show season. I didn’t attend many Ag shows because mum was overseas for nearly a month and we had a few family events come up but I did attend our local Ag show, where I judged juniors, and I also attended the three major pekin shows. This was the biggest four consecutive weekends I have ever had showing. It started locally with Tamworth Club Show, then up to Rosewood in QLD, down to Canberra and then across to Maitland. To say mum and I were tired after this was an understatement but it did allow me to get quite a few hours up driving on my L’s.
Awards From Four Shows
Tamworth: Entered in opens and won a selection of place cards and Reserve Champion Softfeather Bantam with my white cockerel. I also got Champion Mottle and Champion Indian Game with a dark hen.
Rosewood: This was the first time I have attended this show and I entered Novice. I won a selection of place cards and Champion White with the same cockerel that won at Tamworth (Thanks to Cathy Newton for the photo). Mum usually takes the photos and didn’t take many at Rosewood as she was too busy socialising.
Canberra: As I hadn’t previously won champion or reserve champion Novice I entered some in this section again and also entered some in opens. There weren’t many entrants in Novice this class this year but I still walked away with winning Champion with a black pullet and Reserve Champion with a black cockerel. In opens I won Champion Mottle with a pullet. I also placed 2nd in a class of 22 black pullets so I was thrilled with this.
Maitland: As I won both Champion and Reserve Champion Novice last year I can only enter Opens. The classes in Opens were tough as there were so many outstanding pekins shown in all classes. We were up against the best and were stoked to come away with Champion Blue, Champion Pair (Black) and Reserve Champion Colour with a blue mottle hen. I also won 3rd and 5th with two of my black pullets in a class of 25 so again, I was thrilled with these results. Mum and I were a bit slack at this show and didn’t take many photos either.
We really love show season as it is a time when we get to meet up with friends we haven’t seen since the previous year and we also get to meet people we have only spoken to through Facebook. As I have mentioned a few times, Mum often forgets to take photos because she is too busy talking to people. When we were driving home from Maitland, Mum and I were quite relieved that our 2019 show season had come to an end so we could spend some weekends at home. There were many kilometres travelled and now it was time to enjoy our weekends, build new grower pens and begin breeding.
